Discovered professional writing at age six.

Started writing everything under the sun, from short stories to humor pieces to poetry, plays, even one hour dramatic TV scripts.

Learned guitar at age 16 and started writing songs.

Knocked around as struggling artist through my 20’s.

Grew tired of poverty.  Went into advertising.  First job was at Grey Advertising in New York.  Won a Clio my first year.  Numerous other awards followed.  Worked on everything from Post Cereal to Quaker State Motor Oil.  Learned the ropes big time.

Became Creative Director of Fred/Alan, Inc.  Had the time of my life.  Worked on MTV, Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, Comedy Central, Sassy magazine, BMG Records, Blue Note, Barq’s Root Beer, and many more.

Followed the “Fred” of Fred/Alan (Fred Seibert) to Hollywood to become Creative Director of Hanna-Barbera.  Played integral role in reviving venerable Cartoon Factory and in the process helped breathe new life into the entire Animation Industry.

Became Story Editor of Cartoon Network’s strange hit series Cow and Chicken.

Moved to Nickelodeon and became Producer of anthology series Oh Yeah, Cartoons!  Created 8 stand alone cartoon shorts.  At the same time wrote the book, music and lyrics for a feature length animated musical The Electric Piper based on the classic Pied Piper story.

Bette Midler covered my song “I Regret Everything” in her Divine Miss Millenium Tour.  Also composed three full length ballets for dance companies in New York,  Minneapolis and Los Angeles.

One of my cartoons, ChalkZone, became a series on Nickelodeon and had the highest rated premiere in Nick’s history up to that time.  Show remained a top Nick hit for four years.

Recently created a new pilot for Nickelodeon,  a series of musical puppet shows that appeared at the Skirball center in Los Angeles, and am writing Branding and Positioning documents for the breakthrough Internet Content company Next New Networks.

  1. Hello Bill. My name is Robbie Rist. I was one of the characters in The Electric Piper.

I am looking for a copy of it for my reel and Nickolodeon didn’t seem too keen on giving me one.

Is there some way I can procure a copy from you?

    Hope all is well.
